"The D Diaries" Review

Recently Lillia Whittington from The D Diaries attended our production of The Old Man and the Old Moon. The show follows the Old Man in a quest across the sea where he encounters the likes of pirate rebels, French hot-air balloonists, and much more! See what Lillia had to say about the show below.


“A witty, fun, and artistically creative play from start to finish. Full of creative characters that are both figment of imaginations, yet closely relatable. From the old man, whose journey shows his everlasting love for his wife. To the fearless band of sailors venturing to the ends of the earth for friendship and loyalty. The characters and story line strike a heartstring for young and old alike. 

The use of space by the characters adds an exciting element to the plot. Making every moment of the play as eye catching as the story line. Creative, eye catching, and always entertaining. A perfect play for date night, families, and friends.”

The Book of Everything

Directed by Curbside Players co-founder Madison Armstrong,

 Directed by Curbside Players co-founder Madison Armstrong, The Book of Everything was a First Stage Series at The University of North Texas where Madison attends. The story follows Thomas Klopper, a 9 year old boy living in Amsterdam just after World War II. It deals with themes of imagination, feminism, happiness, and family, making it incredibly relevant for a 2019 audience. 

A Note from the Director

I personally have never related more to a character than I have to this nine-year-old boy who lives in Amsterdam in 1951 and is named Thomas Klopper. I don’t have the same living conditions as he does or any of the same trials he faces, but I do have the same dreams as Thomas. I think a lot more of us do than we realize. Thomas wants to be happy, and so does everyone else. But “where does happiness begin? With not being afraid anymore.” And that “not being afraid” part is so much harder than we all imagined it would be. But our best weapon against unhappiness and fear is the same one Thomas chooses to use, his imagination. Although I have seen this show and read this script more times than I can remember, I have not truly gone on a journey with Thomas like this until I directed it. I don’t think this play will solve my unhappiness or your unhappiness, but I do think it will remind us all of what we can do to fight it.
